MMO2 has released details of how much its 3G mobile data service will cost during trials on the Isle of Man.

The pricing model is based on punters paying a flat fee for a set amount of usage, and then having to cough up extra if they exceed their quota.

Working on "average" usage, MMO2 reckons residential users who want to access the Web, download music, play games and indulge in multimedia emails, can expect to fork out £44 a month.

Business consumers are looking at around £80 a month - with SME's perhaps paying a little less.

MMo2 said that these prices are only for the purpose of the trial and should not be "indicative of any future tariffs".

Mark Briers, director of 3G, MMO2, said: "This is the leading trial in Europe and one of the world's most advanced high speed mobile data networks. The aim of the 3G trial is to find out what customers want and how much they are willing to pay for the various services."

Today's announcement follows the launch of Europe's first live, working 3G network at the end of last year by Manx Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of MMO2.
