Adaptec looks to India for storage future

Storage networking firm Adaptec will plunk down a $25 million investment in India over the next four years, as it sets up chip design and testing labs.

Starting next year, Adaptec will put $5 million to $10 million toward expanding its research and development efforts in Hyderabad and Bangalore. Most of the work will be done in India will be on future high-end chips used to network storage systems via various protocols. The Hyderabad lab will open its doors in the next three months with Bangalore following at a later date.

“Over the years, India will become a technology centre for Adaptec, enabling us to work more closely with key partners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Dell, HP, IBM, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems,” Adaptec CEO Robert Stephens told India's The Financial Express.

Adaptec also plans to double the number of management and engineering positions in India from just over 100 today. ®
