T-Mobile goes 3G in UK

But don't mention the calls

Mobile network T-Mobile has switched on its 3G network – but don't expect to see people making video phone calls anytime soon.

T-Mobile already has 3G networks up and running in Austria and Germany – but customers are not able to use phones yet and the network is only accessible via a laptop.

Vodafone switched its network on last week and is also offering only data services. It will not be offering 3G phones until October.

Only 3 is offering actual telephone services rather than just data.

There are currently very few 3G phone models available. Major manufacturers have handsets due for launch in the next few months. ®
