IBM wins Bradford IT gig

IBM and IT Net are the preferred bidders for a massive contract for Bradford council. The consortium beat off competition from Atos KPMG. About 135 council workers will move jobs as part of the outsourcing contract.
The City's IT staff were threatening strike action to prevent job losses but trade union Unison and the council reached agreement in February to safeguard jobs. But this agreement could now be under threat.
The union is today questioning whether the bid is viable and whether best value, and therefore savings, has been demonstrated, according to silicon.com. A spokeswoman for the council said such comments were "unhelpful". She added that preferred bidder was just the first step and no contract had been signed. ®
