Eclipse stars with BT's Wi-Fi network

Lunar hotspots

Eclipse Internet is to resell BT's public Wi-Fi service, offering customers the chance to use their broadband on the move.

Eclipse is the first ISP to hook up with BT to use its Openzone Wi-Fi access points. The service is due to be made available in September, but Eclipse is still finalising details. Subscribers will have to pay more for the service, although how much extra is to be decided.

Although the service will be available to Eclipse's broadband punters, the ISP is also mulling the idea of extending access to the 1,300 or so Wi-Fi hotspots to other Net users.

Last month, BT kitted out the Royal Courts of Justice and six other courts around the UK with wireless hotspots. The BT Openzones enabled the public, jurors and others at the courts to access the Internet. ®
