Four in ten net users in the US have broadband at home, according to research from Harris Interactive. Its survey of 2,003 adults also found that the use of broadband and narrowband net access is also on the up.

Harris Interactive found that 73 per cent of adults are now online, up from 69 per cent in late 2003. Of those, 44 per cent use broadband from home, up from 37 per cent at the end of 2003. Overall, the number of grown-ups in the US accessing the net either at home, in the office, at school, library or elsewhere has now reached 156m.

Said Harris Interactive: "By far the most striking change in this new research is the big increase in those with broadband connections. Two years ago, only 22 percent of adults online had broadband connections. By October/December 2003, this had increased to 37 per cent. It is now up to 44 per cent, or more than four in ten, of all those online." ®
