A new web site has been created for people who want to buy and sell votes in the upcoming general election. Whether it's a genuine bid to raise some extra cash or a satirical comment about the state of British politics, the site is likely to stir up more controversy.

Last week, eBay began deleting auctions selling votes after the Electoral Commission warned that it was illegal to do so and could lead to offenders spending up to two years in jail.

Now, one of those who had his auction terminated last week has set up voteforsale for like-minded voters.

The blurb on voteforsale.co.uk says that "you can't help but relish the opportunity to capitalise from political party's wills to buy the electorate, whether it be through gifts or back-handers"

It goes on: "We as the electorate, have the ability to turn party political dirty tricks in to cold hard cash. All you need to do is complete the simple registration form and start auctioning off your vote."

At the time of writing there were just four registered users and one live auction. ®
