AMD trims Sempron, Athlon 64 prices

Ch-ch-ch-changes

AMD yesterday added its latest Mobile Sempron processor to its budget CPU line-up, taking the opportunity to prune the prices of the family, and to chop up to 25 per cent off its desktop Athlon 64 chips.

The Sempron price cuts were forecast last month.

The new Mobile Sempron 3100+ comes in at $107, pushing the 3000+ down from $100 to $93, the 2800+ from $87 to $79 and the 2600+ from $77 to $70.

The Mobile Semprons for thin'n'light notebooks also saw the prices cut, with the 3000+ falling from £134 to $107, the 2800+ from $107 to $99 and the 2600+ from $99 to $89.

Desktop Sempron prices were trimmed too, although only the Socket 754 versions experienced the cut. The 3100+ fell from $114 to $108, the 3000+ from $101 to $94, the 2800+ from $88 to $80, the 2600+ from $78 to $70, the 2500+ from $71 to $67 and the 2400+ from $68 to $64.

The price of the Athlon 64 4000+ was reduced from $643 to $482 and the 3800+ from $424 to $373. All other Athlon 64 prices remained the same. ®
