Landlines for small biz

The Carphone Warehouse is promising UK firms cheaper calls after confirming that its TalkTalk fixed line phone service is to be made available to small businesses (SMEs).

The telco says its phone service is cheaper than business products from BT as it looks to punt TalkTalk Business to the UK's 1.1 million SMEs. A typical business (is there such as thing?) spending less than £250 per month on call charges and line rental could save up to 15 per cent on their phone bills compared to BT's standard Business Plan rates, according to the number crunchers at Carphone.

And Carphone is making a big noise of the fact that TalkTalk punters can call TalkTalk Business punters for nowt, "further extending the benefits of being part of the ever growing TalkTalk community".

"For companies using TalkTalk Business service, this provides a unique proposition, demonstrating their commitment to customer service and accessibility for their customers," said the telco.

But there's a snag. Should a TalkTalk Business customer want to return a call to a TalkTalk punter that call is not free. Even though TalkTalk punters can call each other for free.

We're still waiting to hear back what charges, if any, will be incurred if TalkTalk Business punters want to call each other.
