HP is shifting 200 manufacturing jobs from its Erskine factory to Pardubice in the Czech Republic.

Jim Sheridan, MP for Paisley and North Renfrewshire told the Daily Record the decision was: "one of the worst cases of corporate deceit I have ever come across." Sheridan had previously been assured by HP managers that jobs were safe when they were transferred to Manpower Services and Excel.

HP sent us a statement:

HP can confirm that the manufacture of the next generation, Industry Standard Server (ISS) DL380/385, will be outsourced to our alliance partner, Foxconn, who will manufacture the product at its facility in Pardubice, Czech Republic. The customization of these servers will continue to be undertaken at the Erskine Campus.

This move means that up to 200 jobs, from our resource partners Manpower and Exel, based at our Erskine campus, will be affected during 2006.

HP has taken this decision as part of our global supply chain strategy to drive increased value for our customers and ensure that we remain competitive in the marketplace.

We remain committed to our presence in Scotland; Erskine is one of our main sites in the UK comprising a range of activities including delivering high end customer configured solutions and a sales and customer service support centre.

HP confirmed in mid-September that 968 UK jobs, and 6,000 across Europe, were going. No further details were released because discussions with staff were still going on.®
