BT has denied that a load of broadband TV kit has been nicked from its R&D centre at Adastral Park in Suffolk.

According to industry whispers, thieves broke into Adastral Park a couple of weeks ago and lifted a load of gear relating to the telco's yet-to-be-launched broadband TV service "BT Vision".

One insider told us that thieves cleared out the labs being used to test the BT Vision kit, but the telco has denied this. It did, however, confirm that it has suffered a recent break-in.

In a statement, the firm said: "BT has confirmed that a break-in took place at its Adastral Park campus at Martlesham Heath over the Easter weekend.

"Telecommunications equipment which was under test was stolen. BT Security is working closely with the Police to complete a full investigation, and a thorough review of BT's security operations at the site is underway.

"The theft will have no impact on BT's delivery of services to customers," it said.

BT Vision is a digital TV service due to be launched later this year and combines a set top box with a broadband connection giving access to digital TV services as well as video on demand, an archive of content, and communication services such as VoIP. ®
