I have used WebLogic, JBoss to deploy J2EE applications.

WebSphere deployment descriptors for EJBs requires WebSphere Studio to develop and are not as easy to develop as the WebLogic deployment descriptors.

The comparison of the "free" and the comercial version is an issue.

IBM's mantra..."Lure them with the free stuff, then hook them on our commercial product.".

Not a bad business model and competes against JBOSS.

Free or commercial, WebSphere application server requires the WebSphere Studio to develop J2EE applications. WebSphere Studio is not free.
