After this year's visit to the south of France and last year's to the greenery of Vienna's Stadtpark, RSA Conference Europe is moving to east London next year, more specifically to the fleshpots of Docklands and the ExCel exhibition centre.

ExCel is famed for only being accessible via the tiny driverless trains of the Docklands Light Railway, or DLR, and for having all the character and charm of a wet Wednesday.

Chief conference organiser Tim Pickard says the venue was chosen because 33 per cent of all global Fortune 500 companies are London-headquartered, as are 25 per cent of all European security software companies.

However, a glance at this year's exhibitor list seems to suggest this could be that peculiar Transatlantic definition of "London" that stretches as far west as Bracknell, Maidenhead and Wokingham - places whose proximity to Heathrow airport usually makes Nice and Vienna more accessible than Docklands.

Still, if it means fewer distractions and more concentration on the security threats facing IT, it should be worth it, eh?®
