Red Hat frees Exadel

More SOA and Web 2.0 tools to play with

Red Hat announced today that it is making Exadel's Eclipse-based tool set available as open source through its JBoss division.

The move brings open source developers a tried-and tested, industrial-strength development kit integrated with JBoss's Enterprise Middleware and Red Hat's Linux platform.

The Exadel Studio Pro and Richfaces tools, together with the Ajax4jsf development project, are aimed at the emerging market for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web 2.0 applications. "Eclipse is an excellent foundation for open source development and Exadel's suite maps nicely onto our software," says Sacha Labourey, chief technical officer at Red Hat's JBoss division. "Many vendors are offering some open source tools on top of Eclipse - but we are the only one offering a complete suite."

He goes on to say that Exadel will also work with Red Hat to integrate the development suite with the JBoss Seam and Hibernate technologies to create a solid framework for new applications in the SOA and Web 2.0 space.

"SOA is all about flexibility - you can't force people into a specific solution. These technologies can give developers flexible ways to build new applications in the SOA space based on a fully-fledged Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)."

Exadel's tool set was has been under development since 1998 and is acknowledged as mature and proven technology. It has been widely used for development of new wave applications and clients include ABN AMRO Bank, AT&T, Bank of America, eBay, Echopass, GE, Honeywell and Time Warner.

Richfaces and Ajax4jsf - rebranded under the JBoss brand – are available immediately under an LGPL licence and Exadel Studio Pro will be available later in the first half of 2007, rebranded as Red Hat Studio Pro. ®
