Somehow, I am failing to be suprised by this.

If Bush notices this he is going to take this as an example of terrorist supporters in the US and try to increase surveillance on suspected "terrorists". At least he's out in '08.

In response to your question, you probably guessed that this would happen sooner or later.

the rest of the story the media WON'T tell.

Not the Only Ones

One of the key objections appears to be that they:

"allowed for anonymous transfers of value at a click of a mouse"

Interestingly, the US Federal Reserve (as well as most other countries) operate a similar service - cash. It's easy to transfer value anonymously; while perhaps not at the click of a mouse, the old backpack full of cash in the 3rd wastepaper basket along at exactly 11h43 on Tuesday is much more anonymous than any online service, and would be impossible without Federal collusion.

Can you believe it - citizens wanting to be able to transfer their own assets without letting the State know! Shocking; just shocking.

Of course it isn't, so we call it "money laundering" and try to align it with evils like child pornography - and that's the way we nibble away at your remaining freedom!

This is what happens...

...to banking officials who fail to vote the Party line. Remember, the Gulag is in Cuba.
