RIM's engineers have fixed an incompatibility flagged up by BlackBerry-toting Reg readers - allowing them to demonstrate their indispensability and show off their early-adopter credentials, both at the same time.

After we reported users were having problems connecting Outlook 2007 to RIMs Blackberry devices we were contacted by RIM, who asked to be put in touch with any readers who were suffering disconnection.

Always happy to oblige, once we'd checked with the readers concerned we put the two parties in touch with each other and an amicable fix was agreed.

Turns out the problem required a download and installation of Desktop Manager V4.2 sp1; reboot and feed it a really strong cup of tea, then everything should work fine.

Shame that RIM UK couldn't have provided that information, or been aware that the problem existed, but we're happy to have helped all concerned. Blackberry users can rest assured that even if they're using Outlook 2007 their bank holiday weekend can still be interrupted by vitally important spam.®
