The seventh company to be assimilated into the Cisco collective this year is IP-based video surveillance company, BroadWare Technologies.

BroadWare makes software for web-based monitoring, management, recording and storage of audio and video on the internet.

Cisco plans to close the transaction in the fourth fiscal quarter, ending July 27, 2007. BroadWare's products and 38 employees will be merged into Cisco's Emerging Market Technologies Group. Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed.

California-based BroadWare's IP will be amalgamated with Cisco's existing surveillance product, which allows analog equipment to be accessed on an IP network.

BroadWare claims to be a pioneer in using the internet to transmit audio and video, and one of the first to embed video on a webpage. The company's technology helps monitor NASA's Goldstone antenna in Southern California's Mojave Desert which was used to track the Mars Pathfinder. So far, no thief has managed to steal the 70-meter diameter dish. ®
