Anti-spyware firm PC Tools has announced a deal to buy behavioural protection security technology from developer Novatix for an unspecified amount.

Novatix’s flagship product, Cyberhawk, along with its development team will join PC Tools. Cyberhawk developers will remain in their Boulder, Colorado facility, which becomes PC Tools's new advanced research office. Research in the facility will focus on behavioural detection and emerging technologies.

PC Tools said Novatix’s behavioural protection technology dovetails neatly with its existing signature-based anti-malware packages. The combination will allow it to provide more reliable detection of new strains of malware. "This new technology will help strengthen our zero-day coverage and improve our ability to detect emerging threats," said Simon Clausen, chief exec of PC Tools. ®
