Kilted Debian lovers to overrun Edinburgh

Help! The geeks are coming!

Here's a poser for you: could there be anything more frightening than a bunch of open source geeks (proud ones, at that) milling around the mean streets of Edinburgh? Well, yes. How about if you put some of them in special Debian kilts?

Yes, those wags behind the worldwide Debian conference have designed a tartan especially for the occasion. We're told that the pattern of the kilt says "Debian" in Morse code, and frankly, we are not surprised.

The conference is being held in Edinburgh, and runs from 16-23 June. The official purpose of the gig is to gather the cream of the worldwide Linux developer community together to debate, discuss, and otherwise dissect all the wonders of non-corporate Linux. But we all know it is really about the beer.

Anyway, many of the great and the good (and some of the less great and slightly badder) will be attending this year dressed in their fabulous tartan skirts*. We're told Mark Shuttleworth will be so attired, as will UK open sourcer Mark Taylor (look, here he is in a suit).

Taylor suggests we allow plenty of column inches for our coverage (ahem) and extends an open invitation to any and all Reg readers who happen to be in the vicinity on Saturday 16 June to come on down and get stuck in. So to speak. Free entry is between 10am and 5pm.

Anyone who does fancy it just needs to sign up here. We'd certainly appreciate photographs of the kilted wonders. Think of it as citizen journalism. ®

* Save yourself the typing and just let it go, eh?
