Next Wednesday sees the inaugural evening meeting for the Leeds chapter of GeekUp - the techie social night that is taking the north-west of England by storm.
GeekUp is a monthly techy meet-up held in Manchester, Leeds, and Liverpool. Leeds' first event will be held at the Cross Keys pub, in Water Lane, next to the Round Foundry Leeds Media Centre.
Web designers, software developers, or anyone else interested in new technology and the web is welcome to attend.
The event is being organised by Deb Bassett, a freelance software developer from Otley.
Bassett said: "GeekUp is a community of web designers, web developers, and other tech-minded folk. Until now events have taken place once a month in Liverpool and Manchester, but the time is now right for Leeds to have its own GeekUp".
"The events I have previously attended in Manchester have always been lively places to share ideas and spread a little knowledge; being able to do this in the real world has more benefits over online networks."
The announcement also promises: "The Cross Keys also has free Wi-Fi so laptops are more than welcome." Not that you'll be needing that, what with it being such a lively event.
Organisers ask that you register your interest here (http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/202328/) if you want to go along. ®
