BT has hired Sally Davis as chief executive of its network services and solutions division, BT Wholesale.

The UK telecoms behemoth, which made the announcement today, said that Davis will take on the role in September and will report directly to BT group CEO, Ben Verwaayen.

She will replace Paul Reynolds, who is leaving the firm to take on the role of CEO of Telecom New Zealand.

The wholesale arm of BT currently works with more than 700 communication companies which include ISPs, fixed and mobile network operators.

Davis, who has been with the firm since 1999 holding down the position of chief portfolio officer responsible for migrating BT services over to new broadband and networked services, said she was very excited about taking on the role.

She previously worked for the likes of Bell Atlantic in the US and Mercury Communications in the UK.

Speaking about the new appointment, Verwaayen said:

"Sally has an exceptional level of experience and a proven track record in the communications industry on both sides of the Atlantic.

"This gives her a powerful insight into the needs and the opportunities of BT's wholesale customers."
