CSC is shifting more UK jobs offshore in an effort to control costs.
The latest round of redundancies will hit the Global Infrastructure Services (GIS) department. Initially, voluntary redundancies will be offered but compulsory job losses are likely if not enough volunteers are found.
The company hopes to have the process sorted out by Christmas.
The company went through another restructure in April last year, and talked about "excess capacity in certain geographies". That process aimed to get rid of 5,000 jobs, mostly in Europe.
CSC staff who have contacted the Register described the job cuts as aggressive and likely to hit almost 30 per cent of staff within GIS.
CSC would not talk numbers, but gave us the following statement:
The reductions CSC is making in our UK workforce within our Global Infrastructure Services area are as a result of the changing market dynamics and client requirements which means it is important we re-align our skill base and move certain types of work to other CSC low cost centres where that is demanded by our clients.Global Infrastructure Services will initially release employees by seeking volunteers. It is also committed to supporting the affected employees, which is a small proportion of CSC's UK Global Infrastructure Services' workforce, by offering opportunities for retraining and redeployment within the organisation. Compulsory redundancy will be considered the last resort when all reasonable opportunities have been exhausted.
CSC was recently named as one of eight names on a shortlist of possible suppliers of the UK ID card project. ®
