Get your nose out of that code and turn off that compiler: the mother of all deadlines is upon us, and nobody (except, maybe, Dr Who) can push back or alter the deliverables. Yes, Christmas and the New Year are factors you can no longer ignore or resist.

With that in mind, Reg Developer has been asking you to give us your top picks of news and events that stood out during the last 12 months. Also, we'd like you to share with us your hopes and fears for 2008.

Early results indicate a strong early performance by Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch, green computing, and open APIs. Games - we suspect more from the user than development perspective - are featuring big, with plenty of excitement centering on Portal from the Orange Box and Super Mario Galaxy. It's also worth noting that at this point, Microsoft and Windows Vista are missing from the roll call of 2007's movers and shakers.

That said, people are dreaming of big things from Microsoft in 2008, when Redmond will kick out two major server updates along with Visual Studio 2008. As you might expect, readers have similarly-high hopes for Google, social networks and mobile devices. But they also believe that French Canadian girlfriends and technology fan boy hooligans will feature big next year. You're an odd lot.
