Labour hit by another anonymous donor scandalAnd this one's got an IT anglePublished Monday 10th December 2007 11:55 GMT The Labour Party has been receiving secret donations from another anonymous donor. The party has already suffered from revelations that David Abrahams funnelled more than half a million pounds in donations through various intermediaries. Now, it seems Labour has also been taking money indirectly from Picsel founder Imran Khand. Khand paid the money to Muslim Friends. Groups like Muslim Friends do not have to declare individual donations because, like the unions, they're meant to represent dozens or hundreds of individual donations. In fact, the Sunday Times learnt, Muslim Friends has only one substantial donor - Imran Khand gave 96 per cent of the money which the group sent on to the Labour Party. Electoral laws mean individual donors should be made public on an Electoral Commission register. Muslim Friends is run by Mohammad Sarwar, Labour MP for Glasgow Central. He gave a £5,000 donation to Harriet Harman's campaign for the deputy leadership. Muslim Friends gave £312,000 to the Labour Party. More than £300,000 came from Khand, with £4,000 coming from Sarwar. Imran Khand's Picsel Technologies makes software that simplifies viewing content such as pdfs on mobile phones. Mohammad Sarwar's son was jailed earlier this year for his involvement in an £850,000 carousel VAT scam.
